Abstract

|
The purpose of this essay is to inquire into the ethics of genome editing through CRISPR-Cas9. CRISPR-Cas9 will make human beings the subject of evolution. And it gives us the power to control the genome of biological systems including human beings. We expects it to offer many benefits such as gene therapy. However, we should solve with various kinds of ethical issues implied in genome editing. First of all, we have to be careful to biosafety and biosecurity in advance. In addition, I study on ethical issues critically in modifying or editing human genome. It deepens social inequality and devalues the value of human endeavor to edit human genome for the purpose of genetic enhancement above gene therapy. In particular, germ cell genetic editing will enable us to determine the genome of our children. Designer¡¯s baby will change the relationship between parents and children fundamentally. That is, children is not gifts but commodities. Do parents have the right to determine their children¡¯s genes?
